Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #132878

Medi-Cal Provider

I believe in the uniqueness of each individual and how they experience the world. I seek to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel truly heard and accepted, meeting clients where they are and understanding their stories without judgment. Creating such a space enables clients to heal and grow, exploring the deepest parts of themselves and gaining a greater understanding of who they are as a unique person.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community in the Monterey area, I recognize the need for therapy services that address the unique experiences of those with nondominant sexual and gender identities. I also focus on couples and family therapy with those from both traditional and nontraditional family structures, including polyamorous and consensual non-monogamous relationships.

I am a graduate of Pacifica Graduate Institute with a Masters in Counseling Psychology. My experience as a therapist, prior to joining the team at Shine a Light in 2021, includes an internship at Family Focus, a family services organization serving the Chicago area. This internship gave me a wide variety of experience, including significant work with children and parents involved in the child welfare system. My previous academic experience includes having studied at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA where I earned a BS in Industrial Management and Spanish and at the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge, MA where I earned a certificate in Muscular Therapy. After a long career in the technical industry and shorter careers in massage therapy and real estate, I have returned to my roots as a healer and helper with a career as a marriage and family therapist.

My style is person-centered, balancing the latest evidence-based techniques with my foundations in Jungian and imaginal depth psychology and a psychodynamic approach. My areas of focus include LGBTQ+ issues, sexual and gender identity exploration, couples and family therapy, poly-positive and consensual non-monogamy, anxiety, depression, and existential exploration. If you are interested in setting up a time to discuss whether I might be the right therapist for you can request an appointment with me on the Request an Appointment form below.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your therapy sessions will cost. Your fee will be set according to a sliding scale, in collaboration with your therapist, prior to your first counseling session. Total costs depend upon the number of sessions you choose to utilize.

If you have private health insurance and we are not in-network with your plan, please be aware that your costs for therapy may be less by using an in-network provider. This will depend upon your plan's deductible amounts and co-payments. In some cases, counseling at Shine a Light is less costly than using private insurance.

If you hope to use "out of network" benefits through your private insurance, please be aware that many plans will not reimburse for services provided by trainees. Please request an Associate level therapists for out-of-network billing.
