Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

Meet Liberty

Santa Cruz & Watsonville Offices

Relating with people and witnessing growth is what I love most. It is my honor to support you when you’re feeling stressed out, anxious, invisible or depleted. I hold a therapeutic perspective that is empathetic, patient and curious. I am receptive to that which naturally emerges through thoughts, emotions, sensations, images and memories in each session. I approach personal narratives with openness & compassion.

Physical pain is often related to our most difficult emotional experiences. For me, being a trauma-informed somatic therapist means pacing is important and attuning to sensations & emotions is key. Getting to know our body’s responses to stressors helps us understand how our past is informing our present. Together, we are building awareness through embodiment and re-writing outdated narratives. With this work, we can gain a richer understanding of ourselves, our relationships and our culture.

I take a “power-with” shape in providing care and unconditional kind regard. I’m passionate about sharing therapeutic space with people of all ages, genders, spiritual and sexual orientations, neurotypes, classes and cultures. My experience as a community organizer, peer counselor, movement facilitator, artist and activist has helped me grow skills for attunement and depth with clients. My work integrates Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, Liberation Psychology and Restorative Justice practices with trauma-informed care.

I have a B.A. in Kinesiology, completed a graduate program in Somatic Psychology and am now an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #134851). My coursework and classmates at CIIS (California Institute of Integral Studies) have provided me a framework in decolonization and collectivist wisdoms, focusing on the interplay between power, oppression and privilege – both interpersonally and systemically. By examining the systems we are in, learning from my clients, colleagues and specialists, I seek to continuously grow in my role as a somatic therapist.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Your fee will be set according to a sliding scale, in collaboration with your therapist, prior to your first counseling session. Total costs depend upon the number of sessions you choose to utilize.

If you have private health insurance, please be aware that your costs for therapy may be less by using an in-network provider for your insurance company. This will depend upon your plan's deductible amounts and co-payments. In some cases, counseling at Shine a Light is less costly than using private insurance.

If you hope to use "out of network" benefits through your private insurance, please be aware that many plans will not reimburse for services provided by pre-licensed therapists (most of our staff).
